Northwest Community Garden

Location: NW 16th Ave - between Johnson and Kearney - below the 405 freeway.

The Northwest Community Garden was originally designed by Thomas Adkisson, owner and proprietor of Dig Garden Shop located at 425 NW 11th. Due to city requirements, the design was changed to its current form. The garden design reflects the highly urban landscape of the Pearl and Northwest Portland, and provides the structural foundation for a garden to be sustained over time.

The current design incorporates lighting and safety improvements to address public concerns about the naturally dark spaces found beneath the freeway. Keeping with the linear feel of the surrounding urban landscape, the garden features an attractive fence that defines the block between Johnson and Kearney on 16th and eliminates dark spaces under the freeway while attractively lighting the garden and surrounding surface areas.
